The name Trastevere comes from the Latin trans Tiberim Trastevere, which is beyond the Tiber, since the city had its origin and development on the other side of the river.

In ancient Rome this was the area reserved for the Syrian community and then to the Jews. It was included among the regiones urban Emperor Augustus, but later, during the Middle Ages, the population of Rome fell and the area became deserted.

Trastevere returned to be part of the urban context, two centuries later, when its surface had been repopulated. Today it is one of the favorite places of Roman nightlife, here at night youth get together to spend pleasant hours in the company of the carattersticipub that inhabit the narrow streets of the neighborhood.
